Joining the faces on a dome

The way you join two faces on a dome depends on the type of surface you select.

I have seen a dome covered with shingles. In this case, the edges of the faces were covered with curved shingles. This was a simple solution, because water and snow dripped down over the shingles.

I have seen a large dome covered with a metal surface shaped like a truss. In this case, the surfaces were welded at the edges. This dome was very sturdy. The struts were made from telescoping metal tubes.

I have seen a buckyball dome covered with reinforced plywood faces. In this case, the surface edges were covered with tape and painted over. The inside wall of the dome was covered with insulation and a dry wall. This dome was home built by its owner.
